ITT Ex­elis bags ma­jor or­der


ITT Ex­elis (XLS) has re­ceived a $25-mil­lion or­der to pro­vide a wide range of com­mu­ni­ca­tions equip­ment to an in­ter­na­tional cus­tomer. This for­eign mil­i­tary sales (FMS) pro­gramme con­tract was awarded by the US Com­mu­ni­ca­tions-Elec­tron­ics Com­mand (CECOM) at Aberdeen Prov­ing Ground, Mary­land.

The award in­cludes the de­liv­ery of Ex­elis In­ter­na­tional sin­gle chan­nel ground and air­borne ra­dio sys­tem (SINCGARS) VHF base sta­tions and ve­hic­u­lar sys­tems in sin­gle and dual ra­dio con­fig­u­ra­tions. SINCGARS pro­vides se­cure VHF voice and data com­mu­ni­ca­tions ca­pa­bil­ity to tac­ti­cal units. With more than 6,00,000 ra­dios de­liv­ered to date to the United States and more than 30 of its al­lies, SINCGARS is the most prolific tac­ti­cal ra­dio sys­tem in the world.

It also in­cludes Spear­head VHF Hand­held Ra­dios, unit and in­ter­me­di­ate level spares, in­stal­la­tion ser­vices and field ser­vice rep­re­sen­ta­tive sup­port. The por­ta­ble hand­held tac­ti­cal ra­dio pro­vides dis­mounted sol­diers se­cure, fre­quency-hop­ping voice and packet data with in­te­grated GPS in a small, light­weight package that is fully in­ter­op­er­a­ble with the in­ter­na­tional SINCGARS.
