In­tel­li­gence Bureau com­pletes 125 years


The In­tel­li­gence Bureau com­pleted 100 years of its ex­is­tence in 1987 and cel­e­brated 1988 as its Cen­te­nary Year. The Cen­te­nary Year cul­mi­nated with Dr Shankar Dyal Sharma, then Vice Pres­i­dent of In­dia, de­liv­er­ing the first IB Cen­te­nary En­dow­ment Lec­ture on “The Dy­nam­ics of Se­cu­rity En­vi­ron­ment”.

Since then, a Cen­te­nary En­dow­ment Lec­ture is or­gan­ised in De­cem­ber ev­ery year. Twenty-four such lec­tures have been de­liv­ered by em­i­nent speak­ers in­clud­ing lu­mi­nar­ies like Dr A.P.J. Ab­dul Kalam, Prof J.V. Nar­likar, N.A. Palkhivala, Abid Hus­sain and Prof Jagdish N. Bhag­wati on a wide range of is­sues re­lated to In­dia’s se­cu­rity, devel­op­ment of the In­dian polity and on the state of the na­tion.

This year, the en­dow­ment lec­ture was de­liv­ered by Ki­ran Mazum­dar Shaw, Chair­per­son and Man­ag­ing Di­rec­tor, Bio­con Ltd. on “Role of Biotech­nol­ogy in In­clu­sive Eco­nomic Devel­op­ment”.

The Union Min­is­ter for New and Re­new­able En­ergy, Dr Fa­rooq Ab­dul­lah re­leas­ing the In­dian Po­lice Jour­nal, The In­tel­li­gence Bureau the First 125 Years, at the 25th I.B. Cen­te­nary En­dow­ment Lec­ture, in New Delhi on De­cem­ber 22, 2012. The Min­is­ter of State for Per­son­nel, Pub­lic Griev­ances & Pen­sions and Prime Min­is­ter’s Of­fice, V. Narayanasamy, the Min­is­ter of State for Par­lia­men­tary Af­fairs & Plan­ning, Ra­jiv Shukla, the Min­is­ter of State for Hu­man Re­source Devel­op­ment, Dr Shashi Tha­roor, the Di­rec­tor, In­tel­li­gence Bureau, Ne­hchal Sandhu and Ki­ran Mazum­dar Shaw are also seen.
