Malaysia down se­lects five OEMS for fighter jets

Malaysia which is shop­ping for com­bat air­craft has down se­lected five man­u­fac­tur­ers. Malaysia has shown in­tent of buy­ing 18 com­bat air­craft to re­place its old fleet of Rus­sian-made MiG-29s.

The com­pa­nies short­listed are the Bri­tish-backed Eurofighter Ty­phoon, Swe­den’s Saab JAS-39 Gripen, France’s Das­sault Avi­a­tion Rafale, Boe­ing’s F/A-18E/F Su­per Hor­net and Rus­sia’s Sukhoi Su-30, ac­cord­ing to the coun­try’s De­fence Min­is­ter Zahid Hamidi.

At Langkawi In­ter­na­tional Mar­itime and Aero­space Ex­hi­bi­tion, the Min­is­ter said the pro­gramme was look­ing at 2015 but added that the cost was not known.
