DNA pro­fil­ing tech­nol­ogy

The In­dian Govern­ment has set up DNA pro­fil­ing tech­nol­ogy at the Cen­tre and state lev­els to nab crim­i­nals in the coun­try. At the Cen­tral level, three Cen­tral Foren­sic Science Lab­o­ra­to­ries lo­cated at Chandi­garh, Hyderabad and Kolkata are un­der the ad­min­is­tra­tive con­trol of the Direc­torate of Foren­sic Science Ser­vices and one Cen­tral Foren­sic Science Lab­o­ra­tory at New Delhi is un­der the ad­min­is­tra­tive con­trol of the Cen­tral Bureau of In­ves­ti­ga­tion.

At the state level, 14 State Foren­sic Science Lab­o­ra­to­ries are lo­cated at Agar­tala, Ben­galuru, Dehradun, Gand­hi­na­gar, Guwa­hati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Junga (Hi­machal Pradesh), Karnal, Lucknow, Mum­bai, Delhi, Ranchi and Sa­gar (Mad­hya Pradesh), which are hav­ing the fa­cil­ity of DNA pro­fil­ing. All Foren­sic DNA pro­fil­ing cen­tres are equipped with state-of-theart fa­cil­i­ties. Apart from this, there is one Cen­tre for DNA Fin­ger­print­ing and Di­ag­nos­tics, Hyderabad un­der the Min­istry of Science and Tech­nol­ogy. The lab­o­ra­to­ries hav­ing DNA pro­fil­ing fa­cil­i­ties are ex­am­in­ing cases re­ferred to them by var­i­ous law en­force­ment agen­cies and courts of law on reg­u­lar ba­sis, said Mul­lap­pally Ra­machan­dran, Min­is­ter of State in the Min­istry of Home Af­fairs.
