QinetiQ to sup­port Korean sub­ma­rine de­vel­op­ment pro­gramme

QinetiQ Mar­itime has se­cured a con­tract from Dae­woo Ship­build­ing & Ma­rine Engineering Co. Ltd (DSME), to sup­port the de­vel­op­ment of the Repub­lic of Korea sub­ma­rine pro­gramme. QinetiQ will be con­duct­ing sub­ma­rine free-run­ning model tests, which will in­clude build­ing the sub­ma­rine model and test­ing it in its Ocean Basin in Gosport, UK. QinetiQ will also be run­ning deep wa­ter tests at a sep­a­rate lo­ca­tion.

Dae­woo Ship­build­ing & Ma­rine Engineering Co. Ltd (DSME) was se­lected to build two 3,000-tonne class con­ven­tional sub­marines by the Korean De­fense Ac­qui­si­tion Pro­gram Ad­min­is­tra­tion. The project, called Jang­bogo-III, will have Korean ship­yards build th­ese next-gen­er­a­tion sub­marines for the Korean Navy.
