Al Shamikh ar­rives in Oman

The Royal Navy of Oman or­gan­ised a reception at Said bin Sul­tan Naval Base to wel­come Al Shamikh, the first of the three Kha­reef class war­ships built by BAE Sys­tems un­der the sul­tanate’s Pro­ject Kha­reef. Sayyid Badr bin Saud al Bu­saidi, Min­is­ter of De­fence Af­fairs, greeted the ves­sel upon its ar­rival to join the fleet of Royal Navy of Oman and thanked the com­man­ders, per­son­nel and crew who were on Al Shamikh dur­ing her maiden voy­age from the UK where she was built.

The Kha­reef class corvettes are ca­pa­ble of un­der­tak­ing a range of op­er­a­tions in­clud­ing coastal pa­trols, dis­as­ter re­lief, search and res­cue, and de­ter­rence op­er­a­tions.
