Cer­e­mo­nial han­dover of Gripen to Thai­land


Septem­ber 11, 2013, was an event­ful day for the coun­tries co­op­er­at­ing on Gripen, not only for Switzer­land and the Czech Repub­lic. A tra­di­tional cer­e­mony took place in Su­rat Thani in Thai­land when the Royal Thai Air Force re­ceived the last six Gripen air­craft of the 12 or­dered.

At what was named the Gripen In­te­grated Air De­fence Sys­tem Com­mis­sion­ing Cer­e­mony at the Su­rat Thani air­base in Thai­land, the De­fence Ma­teriel Ad­min­is­tra­tion handed over the last Gripen air­craft on be­half of the Swedish De­fence and Se­cu­rity Ex­port Agency.

The guest of hon­our was the Chief of the De­fence Forces for the Royal Thai Armed Forces and Air Chief Mar­shal Pra­jin Jun­tong, Com­man­der-in-Chief Royal Thai Air Force was the re­cip­i­ent of the air­craft.

Swe­den has pre­vi­ously de­liv­ered two Gripen Cs, four Gripen Ds, two Saab 340 AEWs (air­borne early warn­ing) and one Saab 340 B (trans­port air­craft) to the Royal Thai Air Force.
