Arun Jait­ley

Min­is­ter of Fi­nance and Min­is­ter of De­fence


Arun Jait­ley (born De­cem­ber 28, 1952) is cur­rently the Min­is­ter of Fi­nance, Min­is­ter of Cor­po­rate Af­fairs and an additional charge as the Min­is­ter of De­fence. He is a mem­ber of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He is cur­rently a Ra­jya Sabha mem­ber from Gu­jarat and was cho­sen as the leader of the op­po­si­tion in Ra­jya Sabha on June 3, 2009. In his ca­pac­ity as the leader of op­po­si­tion in Ra­jya Sabha, Jait­ley has been cred­ited for his ex­cel­lent or­a­tory skills which is matched equally by his in­tense re­search into the topic. He has also pre­vi­ously held the portfolios as the Union Cab­i­net Min­is­ter for Com­merce and In­dus­try, Law and Jus­tice in the Na­tional Demo­cratic Al­liance Govern­ment (1998-2004).

Jait­ley passed his law de­gree from the Univer­sity of Delhi, in 1977. He is a well-known lawyer, known for his sharp rea­son­ing and or­a­tory. Dur­ing his ca­reer as a stu­dent, he was the re­cip­i­ent of sev­eral dis­tinc­tions for his out­stand­ing per­for­mances both in aca­demics and ex­tracur­ric­u­lar ac­tiv­i­ties. Jait­ley has been mar­ried to Sangeeta Jait­ley since May 24, 1982, and they have two chil­dren.
