Maiden flight of first A400M for Malaysia


Siko­rsky Air­craft Corp. an­nounced the start of bladed ground testing, a ma­jor mile­stone, for the S-97 Raider pro­gramme. The Raider is an armed re­con­nais­sance ro­tor­craft de­signed to sig­nif­i­cantly out­match con­ven­tional mil­i­tary he­li­copters in ma­noeu­vra­bil­ity, pay­load, speed, range and high/hot en­vi­ron­men­tal con­di­tions.

“Testing all of the air­craft’s sys­tems to­gether, for the first time, marks sig­nif­i­cant progress in the devel­op­ment of this next gen­er­a­tion he­li­copter and moves the pro­gram closer to first flight,” said S-97 Raider Pro­gramme Manager Mark Ham­mond.

The first of four Air­bus De­fence and Space A400M new gen­er­a­tion air­lifters or­dered by the Royal Malaysian Air Force has made its suc­cess­ful maiden flight, mark­ing a key mile­stone to­wards de­liv­ery.

The air­craft, known as MSN22, took off from Seville, Spain, on Jan­uary 30 at 17:30 lo­cal time (GMT+1) and landed back on site 1 hours 30 min­utes later.
