Raytheon Com­pany has been awarded a $45.3 mil­lion con­tract by the US Navy to pro­vide MK 54 light­weight tor­pedo hard­ware, test equip­ment, spares and re­lated en­gi­neer­ing and re­pair ser­vices for the US flhhW LQYhQWRUy dQG LQ VXSSRUW RI IRUhLJQ mil­i­tary sales to the In­dian Navy and the Royal aus­tralian Navy. Raytheon is the US NavyÕs sole pro­duc­tion sup­plier for MK 54 light­weight tor­pedo hard­ware, in pro­duc­tion since 1999. The MK 54 is the NavyÕs next-gen­er­a­tion anti-sub­ma­rine war­fare weapon de­ployed from sur­face ships, he­liFRSWhUV dQG fixhG-ZLQJ dLUFUdIW WR GhWhFW and at­tack un­der­wa­ter tar­gets.

The de­fence ac­qui­si­tion Coun­cil has ac­corded ac­cep­tance of ne­ces­sity (aoN) for pro­cure­ment of 118 30mm Naval guns for Navy and Coast Guard. The case will be fur­ther pro­cessed dur­ing 2013.

Fast In­ter­cep­tion Craft

It is un­der­stood that as an in­terim mea­sure the In­dian Navy had planned to ac­quire 16 05H, dQG IRU ZKLFK FRPSdUdWLYh fihoG tri­als have al­ready been held for the US Siko­rsky S-70B and euro­pean Nh-90. The deal is ex­pected to be worth $1 bil­lion and the re­sults are awaited. This deal should be fiQ­doLVhG WKLV yhdU. 5)3 LV doVR oLNhoy WR eh is­sued for 120 naval multi-role helicopters. There is also a re­quire­ment for naval util­ity helicopters, the ac­qui­si­tion process for which is on now. The In­dian Navy is about to in­duct four fast in­ter­cep­tion craft which have been built by So­las Marine Lanka Pri­vate Ltd and have been de­liv­ered. It is un­der­stood that 12 more are in the pipe­line, all as part of the Coastal Se­cu­rity Scheme.
