CHINA’S UN­DER­WA­TER GLIDER COM­PLETES IN­DIAN OCEAN MIS­SION

Xin­hua News Agency has re­ported that Chi­naÕs in­de­pen­dently-de­vel­oped un­der­wa­ter glider, Haiyi, which means ‘sea wings’ in Chi­nese, has suc­cess­fully com­pleted a sci­en­tific ob­ser­va­tion in the In­dian Ocean, be­tween De­cem­ber 11, 2017, and Jan­uary 2, 2018, mark­ing the first time that the coun­tryÕs in­dige­nous un­der­wa­ter glider was used in this ocean. The mis­sion was meant to ob­serve the in­ter­ac­tion be­tween global cli­mate change and marine con­di­tions, Yu Jiancheng, a re­search fel­low at the Chi­nese Acad­emy of SciencesÕ Shenyang In­sti­tute of Au­to­ma­tion, the glid­erÕs de­vel­oper, was quoted as say­ing by Xin­hua.
