8 se­cu­rity men, 2 JeM mil­i­tants killed in J&K

A three-mem­ber sui­cide squad (fi­day­een) of the Jaish-e-Mo­ham­mad stormed district po­lice lines in south Kash­mir’s Pul­wama district on Satur­day, trig­ger­ing a gun­bat­tle in which eight se­cu­rity per­son­nel — four po­lice­men and four CRPF jawans — and two at­tack­ers were killed. The gun­fight was still go­ing on late on Satur­day. The three mil­i­tants stormed well-for­ti­fied District Po­lice Lines (DPL) in Pul­wama, about 30 km from Sri­na­gar, around 4 am, when po­lice of­fi­cials and their fam­i­lies were present, said J&K Di­rec­tor Gen­eral of Po­lice S P Vaid, adding that the mil­i­tants then took shel­ter in the fam­ily quar­ters.

A po­lice­man and a CRPF jawan were killed and five other se­cu­rity per­son­nel in­jured as the gun­bat­tle be­gan. As it es­ca­lated, a con­tin­gent of the Spe­cial Op­er­a­tions Group of J&K po­lice, army and para­mil­i­tary troops and ar­moured ve­hi­cles were rushed to the spot to res­cue the po­lice­men and their fam­i­lies as he­li­copters aided op­er­a­tions from above.
