Cops guard Simbu after De­Mon song

AC­TOR Sil­am­barasan has been given po­lice pro­tec­tion at his T Na­gar res­i­dence fol­low­ing the con­tro­ver­sial ‘de­mon­eti­sa­tion an­them’ that he fea­tured in. Fear­ing protests from right-wing ac­tivists, around eight cops have been posted at his res­i­dence.

The song sung by him and penned by Ka­bi­lan Vaira­muthu lashes out at the gov­ern­ment’s de­mon­eti­sa­tion move last year.

“We have not re­ceived any com­plaint from the ac­tor till now seek­ing po­lice pro­tec­tion,” said an of­fi­cer of the T Na­gar po­lice. “We have sta­tioned a pa­trol ve­hi­cle and a beat of­fi­cer out­side his res­i­dence. Eight personnel were present at the spot from early on Satur­day morn­ing.” The po­lice have been sta­tioned to en­sure no un­to­ward in­ci­dent oc­currs, es­pe­cially since the BJP of­fice is nearby.

“We were sent here to en­sure that no right-wing forces create any com­mo­tion,” said a po­lice of­fi­cial at the spot. “How­ever, it was peace­ful and there was no trou­ble.”

Se­nior BJP leader, H Raja, how­ever said he was not aware of the con­tro­versy.
