Post Titli: Naidu writes to PM for interim relief of `1,200 cr
PUTTING the loss arising out of the Titli cyclone at `2,800 crore, AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday dashed off a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to release an interim relief of `1,200 crore immediately to take up relief and rehabilitation measures to minimise the misery of the people.
Naidu, in his letter, said the severe cyclonic storm Titli has hit Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts in the early hours of Oct 11 with a wind speed gusting up to 165 km, coupled with high velocity winds and heavy rainfall ranging from 10-43 cm in different parts of the districts.
The cyclone Titli has devastated these districts and left huge damages to properties, agriculture and horticulture crops, houses and infrastructure result- ing in deep distress and misery to the people of these districts. “The cost of the damaged properties, infrastructure and other related sector have been tentatively worked out to be around `2,800 crore,’’ Naidu said.
Naidu, who had been camping in Srikakulam since Oct 11 night, requested the Centre to liberally and expeditiously sanction the relief so as to minimise the misery of the people and sought relief of an interim relief of `1,200 crore at the earliest.
The state government estimated that the cyclone caused loss of `1,000 crore to horticulture crops, `800 crore loss to agriculture sector, `500 crore to electricity sector, `100 crore to R&B department, `100 crore to panchayat raj department and `50 crore each loss to animal husbandry and fisheries department and `100 crore each loss to RWS and irrigation sectors.
