Chi­tradurga: Stat­ing that Tipu Sul­tan was men­tioned by Dr B R Ambed­kar while draft­ing the con­sti­tu­tion, Par­lia­ment Mem­ber B N Chan­drappa said Tipu tried to re­move the dif­fer­ences in the so­ci­ety and worked for the wel­fare of all. Speak­ing at the Tipu Jayanti pro­gramme in the city, he said the Sul­tan cared for poor and op­pressed sec­tion. Stat­ing that Tipu was a pro­gres­sive thinker, Chan­drappa said it was him who de­vel­oped cot­tage in­dus­tries, silk firms and also ex­per­i­mented with rock­ets for the first time and it was not only to pro­tect his em­pire, but to stop con­quest of Bri­tish em­pire. He also said Tipu was not com­mu­nal in­stead “he sup­ported Sringeri mutt, built Ran­ganatha Swamy tem­ple and sup­ported many in­sti­tu­tions.” ENS
