Apple did pull out the big guns this time!
That, they did. This is the new iPhone X, a big step up from all the iPhones we’ve seen so far.
I agree with that. I love the design.
Hey, you’re not alone! The biggest and the most obvious change is how it looks. The home button is retired for an all-screen look on the front.
Home button is retired, you say? How am I gonna unlock my phone now?!
Don’t worry! Apple has thought this through. Presenting the Face ID. In simple words, the iPhone X uses the user’s face to unlock the phone.
Tell me more about the Face ID.
Face ID takes advantage of the TrueDepth camera system that integrates an infrared camera, a dot projector that projects and analyses more than 30,000 dots on the face and a flood illuminator that throws invisible infrared light on the face to help unlock the phone even in dark.
But what about the security? What if someone clicks my picture and spoofs it to unlock the device?
Firstly, Face ID is intelligent enough to discern between a photograph and a real person. Also, in an extreme case, you can either look away or close your eyes and Face ID won’t unlock the phone. It also uses machine learning to recognise changes in the appearance. For instance, even with a beard, hat or sunglasses, Face ID will be able to detect the face and unlock the phone.
What about the screen?
The iPhone X now comes with a 5.8-inch Super Retina (2436x1125) display that boasts a display density of 458ppi. It is also the first iPhone to use an OLED panel that has an impressive contrast ratio and HDR support.
It has two at the back, both standing at 12MP with wide-angle and telephoto lens. Both support OIS, faster focus and improved portrait mode. The camera can also record 4K videos at 24/30/60fps.
When can I buy one?
It goes on sale from November 3 in India in silver and space grey with storage options of 64GB and 256GB.
It adopts various touch gestures for multitasking, control center, Siri and more
