Moto G5s Plus

I’m getting this feeling of deja vu.
An anticipated feeling as it’s been only a few months since we last saw the original G5 series debut in India. Motorola is proudly proclaiming the duo to be the ‘special edition’.
Tell me then, what’s special about them?
As a regular reader you would already know, the G series has always focussed on the camera department. This is where the dual rear camera setup finally makes its debut in the G5s Plus along with a larger display to admire your snaps. Not to be left behind, the G5s gets a specification bump.
A dual camera setup seems to be all the rage these days.
Moto has taken great efforts to tell everyone that they haven’t just added it to check a box but to enhance user experience. The two 13MP sensors on the rear have an aperture of f/2.0 working in tandem to provide features like depth editor, background replacement and selective colouring.
That’s swell but design-wise I have mixed feelings.
You aren’t the only one. The pronounced antenna lines running at the back make them lose their identity, marking a design departure from ethos of yore. However, the good news is that the new devices have been built using a single block of metal instead of the previously employed metal-plastic mishmash.
Just so you know, still hate the camera bump.
I doubt anyone likes a protruding camera sensor which requires extra care when placing it on the surface. Using a back cover is a must we feel.
Coming back to the G5s...
Ah yes, the G5S has received minor upgrades starting with 16MP rear camera, 5.2” display and 3000mAh battery. Though it’s debatable whether dropping removable battery support was worth the extra 200mAh increase.
Can they only be bought online?
You’ll also be able to buy the devices offline in special Moto Hub stores spread across the country. A welcome move to lure those wary of buying smartphones online.
