X-MINI XOUNDBAR

This wireless speaker is really compact and sounds great

Here at T3, we’ve been seen our fair share of Bluetooth wireless speakers in different shapes and sizes and the latest to visit our HQ is X-mini’s Xoundbar. Irrespective how you try to pronounce the product’s name, it’s a perfect example of chota packet, bada dhamaka!

The Xoundbar is tiny with a width of just 4.67-inches and height of 1.8-inches. It weighs just 128g and can be easily slipped into a pocket or a small purse. The uncluttered design features mesh grille on the front and back with a silver finish on the sides. The LED indicator light and microUSB port are at the back whereas the physical controls are on the top. The speakers are IPX4 certified that protects the speaker from occasional splashes, which is good enough to listen by the pool.

The Xoundbar is equipped with two full-range 36mm audio drivers with the loudspeaker output rated at 6W. X-mini also allows the Xoundbar to be connected to another Xoundbar for an improved stereo sound experience.

Loudness is one thing but what about the audio quality? The Xoundbar at 50-75 percent sounds pretty good while trying to give a balanced output but the speaker struggles when the volume is cranked to the maximum. That said, audio doesn’t sound bad at 100 percent and if needed, the Xoundbar is capable of filling up a medium-sized room of 125-150 sq. ft with ease. Bass is nonexistent, which is understandable for a speaker of this size. The design also does not make the Xoundbar wobble when music is played at high volume. It has up to 5 hours of battery life and takes up to 2.5 hours to charge.

If we were to nitpick, the absence of volume keys is the only thing that we dislike. Long pressing the fast forward/rewind keys allows to decrease or increase the volume and more often than not, the speakers skips to the next track or rewinds to the start of the track if you mistakenly forget to long press the button.

Xoundbar is officially priced at`4,990 but at the time of going to press, the speaker is retailing under `3,000, which is a really good price for the speaker that is compact and offers decent audio quality playback.
