ONE STEP AT A TIME

Director Sanjay Gupta has fallen under the sway that Woody Allen referred to as the Golden Age fallacy — the belief that he would have been happier had he belonged to a different era. Obsessed with the idea of getting Bipasha Basu to perform a “pure and palatable” mujra for his latest film, Shootout at Wadala, Gupta has given lyricist Anand Raj Anand references from the songs of Bazaar, Pakeezah and Umrao Jaan.

With that lockdown on references, the words might hit the right key, but how will the subtle “adayein” of a mujra fit? Our Bips can barely bop to hip-hop. We suspect inventing a time machine might just be easier, Sanjay.
