Some of my favourites are from the dOCUMENTA (13) Festival of Art. Amar Kanwar’s film/installation is on the forcible displacements of indigenous communities in Odisha. The Otolith Group’s film The Radiant explores Japan’s ill-fated encounter with the unstable atom that culminated in the Fukushima reactor meltdown. William Kentridge’s The Refusal of Time invokes, through panoramic sound and image, the history of the control of world time, relativity, black holes, and string theory. Wael Shawky’s films Cabaret Crusades use 200 years old marionettes to replay the 11th century Crusades, and the schism between the East and the West.
