PRIME MINISTER Narendra Modi’s trip to Japan is a vital milestone in renewing tie- ups with foreign countries. The great news is that India and Japan have signed an agreement to develop Varanasi into a “smart city”, and Japan will be investing $ 35 billion in India over the next five years. Japan has also showed a interest in Mr Modi’s pet project of bullet trains. It is, therefore, fitting that Mr Modi announced that India will give Japan the status of a special strategic and global partner. This will help India tap the immense technology know- how that Japan has long wielded.
