‘ Govt scheme for Army porters’

New Delhi: The Centre on Friday informed the Supreme Court that it had prepared a draft welfare scheme for the 12,000 porters who did casual work for the Army by carrying its supplies to high altitude areas in Kargil and along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. Additional Solicitor General P. S. Patwalia, gave this information before a three- judge bench comprising the Chief Justice T. S. Thakur and Justices A. M. Kanwilkar and D. Y. Chandrachud and said the scheme is expected to be finalised within three weeks.
