Lanka President leaves for Russia
Colombo: President Maithripala Sirisena on Wednesday left on a threeday official visit to Russia, becoming the first Sri Lankan head of the state to visit Moscow in 43 years. His visit takes place following an invitation by Russian President Vladimir Putin as both countries mark the 60th anniversary of establishment of bilateral ties, officials said. Mr Sirisena and Mr Putin would hold talks tomorrow. His discussions in Moscow will focus on the bilateral ties, including trade and investment. Sirimavo Bandaranaike’s visit to Moscow in 1974 was the last such trip by a Sri Lankan leader. —
