Chandgiram akhara gets a makeover

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

The Chandgiram akhara, on the banks of river Yamuna, recently got a complete makeover and the fully renovated and upgraded venue will be inaugurated on the death anniversary of Padmashree Chandgiram on June 29.

The renovated akhara is equipped with modern training facilities and latest audio-visual gadgets like over projector and other computerised training facilities and a wellequipped gym.

Besides top class training facilities, there is also an airconditioned hostel for women and men wrestlers.

A dietician is too attached with the hostels to provide balanced diet to the trainee wrestlers.

“Despite opposition, Chandgiramji laid the foundation of women wrestling in the 90s and prepared many women in India for wrestling.

“Keeping this in mind, the mentors of Chandgiram Welfare Charitable Trust have decided to give special attention to women wrestlers and young budding mat men as a mark of respect to late Masterji,” Sports Authority of India coach Sahdev Singh Balyan said.
