Indian envoy visits Rakhine province
New Delhi: The Indian ambassador to Myanmar was among the 50 diplomats who participated in a visit organised by the Myanmar Government to about six villages in the Northern Rakhine province, the MEA confirmed on Thursday. The Rakhine province was devastated by violence against Rohingya Muslims in Buddhist-majority Myanmar after Rohingya militants attacked Myanmar security forces initially. But in the massive retaliatory offensive by the Myanmar Army that followed, thousands of Rohingyas fled their homes in Rakhine to take shelter in neighbouring Bangladesh. The visit was apparently organised by the Myanmar government.
