In­dian en­voy vis­its Rakhine prov­ince

New Delhi: The In­dian am­bas­sador to Myan­mar was among the 50 diplo­mats who par­tic­i­pated in a visit or­gan­ised by the Myan­mar Govern­ment to about six vil­lages in the North­ern Rakhine prov­ince, the MEA con­firmed on Thurs­day. The Rakhine prov­ince was dev­as­tated by vi­o­lence against Ro­hingya Mus­lims in Bud­dhist-ma­jor­ity Myan­mar af­ter Ro­hingya mil­i­tants at­tacked Myan­mar se­cu­rity forces ini­tially. But in the mas­sive re­tal­ia­tory of­fen­sive by the Myan­mar Army that fol­lowed, thou­sands of Ro­hingyas fled their homes in Rakhine to take shel­ter in neigh­bour­ing Bangladesh. The visit was ap­par­ently or­gan­ised by the Myan­mar govern­ment.
