TN get­ting less Cau­very wa­ter: CM

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu gov­ern­ment on Satur­day said there was a “deficit” in re­al­i­sa­tion of its share of Cau­very wa­ter this year ( 2017- 18) and urged the neigh­bour­ing Kar­nataka to re­lease at least 15 tm­cft of wa­ter to make up for a part of the short­fall. In a let­ter to his Kar­nataka coun­ter­part Sid­dara­ma­iah, chief min­is­ter K. Palaniswami said Tamil Nadu had re­ceived only 111.647 tm­cft as on Jan­uary 9 at Bili­gun­dulu as against the due of 179.871 tm­cft, leav­ing a deficit of 68.224 tm­cft. As per the 2007 or­der of the Cau­very Wa­ter Dis­putes Tri­bunal, Tamil Nadu has to re­ceive 192 tm­cft ( thou­sand mil­lion cu­bic feet) of wa­ter ev­ery year as its share from the Cau­very river.
