New Delhi, Feb. 12: The CBI has arrested a former Home Guard for allegedly extorting money from Delhi transport department officials after secretly filming them while taking bribe, the probe agency’s officials said here on Monday.

The CBI had received “reliable” information about “rampant corruption” in the Delhi government’s transport department, wherein officials of some enforcement teams were collecting hefty amount of illegal gratification from drivers and owners of vehicles violating traffic rules, they said.

The agency also received information that taking advantage of the situation, Mukesh Moga — a resident of Ghaziabad — started secretly filming officials indulging in corrupt act and extorted money for them for not sending those videos to higher officials, the officials said.

In one such case, Jagat Singh, an assistant subinspector of the transport department, was reportedly filmed by the driver of Moga while allegedly taking bribes from vehicle owners in Mundka on February 8, they said.

According to an FIR, Moga collected details of Jagat Singh from two officials of the transport department — Shivdan Singh and Anil Sharma — and informed them that the assistant subinspector has been trapped in the sting video.

“Shivdan Singh and Anil Sharma are aware of the modus operandi of Mukesh Moga of extorting money from officials and also about the fact that ASI Jagat Singh is being subjected to the same,” it said.

Moga demanded “protection money” from Jagat Singh who engaged Raj Kapoor, a transport department official, for negotiating the payment, the FIR stated.

After getting information about exchange of extortion money, the CBI laid a trap on Saturday morning and arrested Moga. During searches, the agency also seized the alleged extortion amount of over ` 1 lakh, they said, adding all the four persons — Moga, Jagat Singh, Shivdan Singh and Anil Sharma — have been named as accused in the FIR.
