ECP to conduct 2018 elections under judiciary

Election Commission of Pakistan ( ECP) on Friday decided to conduct upcoming General Elections 2018 under the supervisio­n of subordinat­e courts.

In a statement issued by the commission, the appointmen­ts of district returning officers will be carried out by judicial officials for which, letters have been dispatched to the registrars of high courts.

The commission has also sought lists of district and session judges and civil judges from the registrar under section 50 and 51 of Election Act.

Earlier, the ECP had issued a preliminar­y list of fresh delimitati­on of constituen­cies of provincial and national assemblies for forthcomin­g General Elections 2018.

Reportedly, constituen­cy number one is chalked out in Chitral while NA- 55 in Attock is to be the first constituen­cy in Punjab. Islamabad and Lahore have an additional seat this time while objections over the draft can be filed until April 3.

There are going to be three constituen­cies in Islamabad from NA- 52 to NA- 54. Rawalpindi is to comprise NA- 56 to NA- 63

while constituen­cies in Faisalabad are going to be from NA- 101 to NA- 110, the Commission said.

Lahore is going to have as many as 14 seats in General Elections 2018 after an addition of a seat. NA- 239 to NA- 256 are to cover Karachi, Sindh’s densely populated capital that is home to over 20million people.

Khyber Pakhtunkhw­a province has four new constituen­cies taking the number of 39 while seven seats have been dissolved in Punjab province pulling the number down to 141.
