2,889 fresh Covid cases take tally to over 83,000
◗ THE number of Covid19 containment zones in Delhi has risen to 421 after re-mapping of such areas while around 2.45 lakh people have been screened
The national capital, on Sunday, recorded 2,889 fresh novel coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours pushing the total number of virus cases towards 83,100.
With 3,000 more patients testing positive in the national capital since Friday, Delhi’s Covid-19 count has risen to 83,077, according to the government. Along with that, the death toll increased to 2,623 after 65 more fatalities were reported since Friday, it said.
There are currently 27,847 active patients in the national capital while 52,607 patients have been discharged or migrated after recovering from the highly contagious disease.
Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 containment zones in Delhi has risen to 421 after re-mapping of such areas while around 2.45 lakh people have been screened in a mammoth exercise to check the spread of Covid-19 in the national capital, officials said on Sunday.
They said the count of containment zones is expected to jump further as the authorities in some districts are yet to complete the task of redrawing such areas following the Centre’s directions. Before the re-mapping exercise, the number of containment zones was 280 in the city, an official said.
“We have screened around 2 lakh people for Covid-19 in a house-tohouse survey being conducted across the city. Also, 45,000 people have been screened in containment zones,” the official said.
The process of screening every household has to be completed by July 6.
According to the 2011 Census, there were over 34.35 lakh households in the national capital, including 33.56 lakh in urban areas and 79,574 in rural areas.
As per the Covid-19 response plan issued by the Delhi government, the re-mapping of the containment zones is to be completed by June 30. Under the new rules, the authorities have to delineate containment zones on a microlevel instead of big ones.
At least 1,100 teams comprising two members each have been formed to screen the national capital’s population for Covid-19 infection. The teams are armed with a mobile application, SS Corona, which will send real-time details to a dedicated web portal set up by the government.
The same mobile application is being used for carrying out screening in containment zones in the national capital, officials had earlier said.
