SUU KYI’S PROMISE

THE DEATH of at least 113 people after a landslide at a jade mine in the jade-rich Hpakant area of Kachin state of northern Myanmar on Thursday is most shocking. The jade miners were smothered by a wave of mud. Little has changed despite Suu Kyi government’s pledge in 2016 to clean up the industry.
