6 earth­quakes hit Mi­zo­ram in 15 days

Aizawl: An earth­quake of 4.6 mag­ni­tude hit Mi­zo­ram’s Cham­phai dis­trict on Fri­day af­ter­noon, the sixth quake to rock the state in the last 15 days, of­fi­cials said. The earth­quake oc­curred at around 2.35 pm and the epi­cen­tre was 52 km south-south­east of Cham­phai, ac­cord­ing to the Na­tional Cen­tre for Seis­mol­ogy. The depth of the earth­quake was 25 km, it said. Tremors were felt in Farkawn, Khuangth­ing, Khaw­bung, Thekpui, Zawl­sei and other nearby vil­lages of the dis­trict on the In­dia-Myan­mar bor­der, Cham­phai’s Deputy Com­mis­sioner Maria C.T. Zuali said. Tremors were also felt in Cham­phai town, she said. The ex­tent of the dam­age caused by the earth­quake was yet to be as­cer­tained.
