6 earthquake­s hit Mizoram in 15 days

Aizawl: An earthquake of 4.6 magnitude hit Mizoram’s Champhai district on Friday afternoon, the sixth quake to rock the state in the last 15 days, officials said. The earthquake occurred at around 2.35 pm and the epicentre was 52 km south-southeast of Champhai, according to the National Centre for Seismology. The depth of the earthquake was 25 km, it said. Tremors were felt in Farkawn, Khuangthin­g, Khawbung, Thekpui, Zawlsei and other nearby villages of the district on the India-Myanmar border, Champhai’s Deputy Commission­er Maria C.T. Zuali said. Tremors were also felt in Champhai town, she said. The extent of the damage caused by the earthquake was yet to be ascertaine­d.
