Amit Shah Skips Didi’s Bastion During His West Bengal Visit

The Day After - - STATES DIARY -

BJP national president Amit Shah, who was on a threeday visit to West Bengal, decided to skip Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s constituency Bhowanipore. State BJP leader’s plas of Shah’s stopover and lunch there got changed and BJP leaders were asked to look northward. Party stalwarts feel that Kolkata North Lok Sabha constituency has better electoral prospects than Kolkata South, the latter being synonymous with Didi’s turf.

The other possible reason behind the change in plans could be that post Amit Shah’s visit in April, the Bhowanipore family where he lunched, came under a lot of pressure and harassment. The party doesn’t want to unnecessarily pick up confrontation, where it can be avoided. Shah believes that BJP has huge potential to grow in West Bengal and hence pushing his cadre to ensure victory of BJP candidates in double digit numbers in 2019 Lok Sabha Polls.
