CCTV cam­eras, speed de­tec­tors to keep a check on traf­fic vi­o­la­tors

Traf­fic vi­o­la­tors in the Raipur city may soon find them­selves land­ing in trou­ble the next time they try to break the red sig­nal or park in a no-park­ing zone as they will be un­der the pry­ing lenses of about 250 CCTV cam­eras as well as speed de­tec­tors un­der the In­tel­li­gent Traf­fic Man­age­ment Sys­tem (ITMS), im­ple­mented un­der the smart city pro­ject.

ITMS, which is be­ing im­ple­mented on a bud­get of Rs157 crore aims to as­sist po­lice in tack­ling traf­fic men­ace caused by rash driv­ing, sig­nal vi­o­la­tion and il­le­gal park­ing. Ten­der for the ITMS has been is­sued to a pri­vate techno com­pany, the de­tailed con­fir­ma­tion of which is ex­pected to be de­clared in the next board meet­ing.

As per Raipur Smart City of­fi­cials, af­ter the fi­nal dec­la­ra­tion of ITMS’s work or­der, around 250 high-res­o­lu­tion CCTV cam­eras will be in­stalled across all busy squares and junc­tions of the city in eight months.

Four CCTV cam­eras and one PHZ cam­era have al­ready been in­stalled in Sashtri Chowk and another four CCTV cam­eras have been in­stalled in Jais­tambh Chowk.

Th­ese two chowks are one of the busiest cross­ings in the city and the cam­eras will help mon­i­tor smooth traf­fic move­ment and help iden­tify traf­fic vi­o­la­tors.

A sur­vey will be held on all the busy roads of the cap­i­tal city and more than 50 squares will soon get CCTV cam­era surveil­lance un­der the ITMS Sys­tem.
