CCTV cameras, speed detectors to keep a check on traffic violators
Traffic violators in the Raipur city may soon find themselves landing in trouble the next time they try to break the red signal or park in a no-parking zone as they will be under the prying lenses of about 250 CCTV cameras as well as speed detectors under the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS), implemented under the smart city project.
ITMS, which is being implemented on a budget of Rs157 crore aims to assist police in tackling traffic menace caused by rash driving, signal violation and illegal parking. Tender for the ITMS has been issued to a private techno company, the detailed confirmation of which is expected to be declared in the next board meeting.
As per Raipur Smart City officials, after the final declaration of ITMS’s work order, around 250 high-resolution CCTV cameras will be installed across all busy squares and junctions of the city in eight months.
Four CCTV cameras and one PHZ camera have already been installed in Sashtri Chowk and another four CCTV cameras have been installed in Jaistambh Chowk.
These two chowks are one of the busiest crossings in the city and the cameras will help monitor smooth traffic movement and help identify traffic violators.
A survey will be held on all the busy roads of the capital city and more than 50 squares will soon get CCTV camera surveillance under the ITMS System.
