Khurda station gets Wi-Fi, SambalpurJharsuguda becomes electrified section

The DQWeek (Kolkata) - - REGIONAL NEWS - DQW NEWS BUREAU Bhubaneswar/Sambalpur:

Minister of state for Railways Manoj Sinha on Wednesday inaugurated two railway projects and laid foundation stone for another project through videoconferencing from East Coast Railway (ECoR) headquarters at Bhubaneswar.

He inaugurated free Wi-Fi facility at Khurda Road station, near the capital city. The station is a rail junction and witnesses thousands of passengers daily. This facility will help the passengers immensely, said the railway minister.

He then inaugurated newly commissioned electrified section between Sambalpur and Jharsuguda. He dedicated this section to the nation by flagging off a special train in the route. The 48 km long section will reduce travel time, save diesel and will benefit the environment, said the official sources.

The minister also laid foundation stone for a rail over bridge (ROB) at Khetrajpur in Sambalpur. It was a long standing demand of the people of Sambalpur.

Dinesh Kumar Singh, divisional railway manager (DRM), Sambalpur division, said the tender for the ROB has already been floated. The construction work of the double lane 960 meter long ROB will be completed within 18 months after the finalisation of tender. Estimated cost of the project is Rs 51.52 crore, he added.

Because of the manned level crossing at Khetrajpur, traffic chaos has become a regular phe- nomenon in that area. Due to frequent movement of trains, the manned railway level crossing is closed in a regular interval. And each time a train passes, the gate is closed for at least 15 minutes, obstructing the smooth flow of the traffic on the busy road and causing severe traffic congestion there.

For the convenience of pedestrians, a foot over bridge (FOB) will also be built at Khetrajpur in addition to the ROB,” said Singh.

During the occasion, a function was held at Sambalpur. It was attended by Sambalpur MLA, Raseswari Panigrahi, and a large number of passengers along with locals.
