Ep­son over­takes HP; claims lead­er­ship in Inkjet printer mar­ket

Ep­son has re­cently an­nounced t hat it has se­cured the No.1 po­si­tion in the Inkjet printer mar­ket (by Vol­ume and Value) ,as per IDC’s lat­est Hard Copy Pe­riph­er­als(HCP) Quar­terly mar­ket re­port for 2017 Q1. The re­port high­lights the in­creas­ing shift to­wards InkTank prin­ters due to low cost of own­er­ship and re­it­er­ates the grow­ing de­mand for InkTank prin­ters over laser prin­ters.

Ep­son over­took HP as the mar­ket leader in terms of Unit share for the first time ever af­ter post­ing a 26.5 per­cent growth Year on Year (YoY) in the Inkjet cat­e­gory. Ep­son cap­tured 42.9% of the Inkjet mar­ket by Vol­ume, while HP’s mar­ket share de­clined to 39.4 %. As per the re­port Ep­son’s Value mar­ket share has in­creased to 51.8% while HP has de­clined to 34.8%. Ep­son has led the Inkjet mar­ket by Value share for a few years now. Ac­cord­ing to IDC, de­mand from SMEs in smaller cities and home con­sumers were the driv­ing force be­hind the growth of InkTankPrin­ters ship­ments in 2017Q1.The re­port also high­lights that this is for the first time in six quar­ters that the Printer mar­ket has reg­is­tered growth with ship­ments reach­ing 799,164 in Q1 2017.

InkTankprin­ters were first in­tro­duced by Ep­son in 2011 and have helped con­sumers across the home, com­mer­cial and of­fice seg­ments to print more by keep­ing the cost in con­trol. The ex­tremely low cost per print of 7 paise for Black and 18paise for Colour struck a chord with con­sumers and Ep­son has seen its sale in In­dia go up ex­po­nen­tially over the years. The cu­mu­la­tive global sales of Ep­son’s high-ca­pac­ity InkTankinkjet prin­ters have reached 20 mil­lion units. In In­dia alone, Ep­son has sold in ex­cess of 1.7 Mil­lion InkTankprin­ters since its launch.
