5,000 Workers Opt for VRS
Nokia India said about 5,000 workers opted for the voluntary retirement scheme that it began offering about a month ago, reports Our Bureau. Due to a .`2,000-crore tax dispute, Nokia India’s assets were frozen, which led to its Chennai factory being left out of a global Microsoft takeover deal. The VRS is valid till 4 am on May 15 and some more are expected to accept the VRS during the night shift. Nokia India said it is offering employees a support programme, which will give “employees the chance to seek new opportunities outside the company based on a firm financial footing”.
