5,000 Work­ers Opt for VRS

Nokia In­dia said about 5,000 work­ers opted for the vol­un­tary re­tire­ment scheme that it be­gan of­fer­ing about a month ago, re­ports Our Bu­reau. Due to a .`2,000-crore tax dis­pute, Nokia In­dia’s as­sets were frozen, which led to its Chen­nai fac­tory be­ing left out of a global Mi­crosoft takeover deal. The VRS is valid till 4 am on May 15 and some more are ex­pected to ac­cept the VRS dur­ing the night shift. Nokia In­dia said it is of­fer­ing em­ploy­ees a sup­port pro­gramme, which will give “em­ploy­ees the chance to seek new op­por­tu­ni­ties out­side the com­pany based on a firm fi­nan­cial foot­ing”.
