Mercy plea of Yakub Me­mon Re­jected

NEW DELHI The mercy plea of Yakub Ab­dul Razak Me­mon, a deathrow con­vict in the 1993 Mum­bai se­rial blasts, has been re­jected by Pres­i­dent Pranab Mukher­jee. The de­ci­sion has been taken by the Pres­i­dent fol­low­ing rec­om­men­da­tions of the Ma­ha­rash­tra govern­ment and the Home Min­istry to re­ject the mercy plea, a se­nior of­fi­cial said. Yakub was sen­tenced to death by a TADA court in 2007 af­ter be­ing found guilty of charges of crim­i­nal con­spir­acy and for ar­rang­ing fi­nances and man­ag­ing its dis­burse­ment through the co-ac­cused in the Mum­bai se­rial blasts.
