Designers Do a Dress Rehearsal Before Modi’s Inauguration

Ace designers say a bit of tweaking up would do wonders to Narendra Modi's sharp and crisp look

The Economic Times - - Pure Politics - VIJAYA RATHORE

On May 11, Padmashree fashion designer Wendell Rodricks suggested in one of his tweets that India's new PM Narendra Modi's lips resembled those of Hollywood beauty Anjelina Jolie's, while also commenting his rivals like Arvind Kejriwal and Rahul Gandhi.

“Fashion confusion to choose between Modi's #Anjelina Jolie lips, Rahul's Cameroon Diaz dimples or Kejriwal's Streisand perfect fingers,” read the tweet.

Like this tweet, there is a lot being said and discussed in the fashion community about Modi's looks, style, fashion, body language and more.

Fashion experts and ace designers say Modi had already made a style statement with his “crisp and sharp” Indian look, and just a bit of tweaking up would work wonders while he is in the hot seat.

“Since his profile has changed, his look should be more intellectual with a shade of luxury,” says JJ Valaya, maintaining that Modi's current Indian look with his signature Kurta Payjama should never be compromised. who would not want to change much about him. “There could be a few add ons like a contracts collar with the jackets and may be pocket squares,” says Malhotra, who also recommends navy blue colour, “the new black” for Modi going ahead. What will Modi wear for his swearing in on Monday? While all eyes are on Modi to see how he plans to take India forward, people are also curious to know even smaller details like what he will wear on the day of his swearing in. It is learnt that Modi's personal tailor Bipin Chauhan has already made a few garments for the special day for him to choose from. Chauhan, however, declined to comment on the specifics or provide any details. Modi has caught fancy of many designers, from lesser known to the most popular ones, who would love to dress him at the first opportunity. Ritu Kumar says she would love to design a Bandi, the Indian waistcoat, for him. ET asks designers to sketch the Modi look.
