Infy In­ter­views 8 In­ter­nal Can­di­dates for CEO’s Post

In­fosys has in­ter­viewed eight in­ter­nal can­di­dates and fin­ished their eval­u­a­tions as part of its search for the first non-founder CEO, mark­ing an im­por­tant stage in the run-up to the ap­point­ment of a suc­ces­sor to SD Shib­hu­lal.

The com­pany is await­ing the first list of po­ten­tial out­side can­di­dates from ex­ec­u­tive search firm Egon Zehn­der.

Those in­ter­viewed, in­clude the two pres­i­dents, BG Srini­vas and UB Pravin Rao. The Ban­ga­lore­based com­pany also eval­u­ated six other se­nior vice pres­i­dents, in­clud­ing Man­ish Tan­don, head of the life sci­ences busi­ness; San­jay Jalona, head of man­u­fac­tur­ing and en­gi­neer­ing ser­vices and Mo­hit Joshi, head of fi­nan­cial ser­vices. Oth­ers to have been eval­u­ated in­clude Ravi Ku­mar S — head of in­sur­ance, cards & pay­ments; San­deep Dad­lani — boss at re­tail, con­sumer pack­aged goods & lo­gis­tics and Ra­jesh Kr­ish­na­murthy — head of en­ergy and com­mu­ni­ca­tions. “As part of the process, we were in­ter­viewed by the nom­i­na­tions com­mit­tee,” said one of the ex­ec­u­tives, who is in the race for the CEO’s po­si­tion, adding that this process of eval­u­a­tion lasted “four rounds”. front-run­ner for the top job. On April 11, In­fosys man­dated US-based De­vel­op­ment Di­men­sions In­ter­na­tional, a specialist in ex­ec­u­tive eval­u­a­tions, to help eval­u­ate in­ter­nal ex­ec­u­tives. In­fosys de­clined to com­ment for this story.

In­fosys started the search for the fifth chief ex­ec­u­tive in April af­ter Shibu­lal ex­pressed his de­sire to step down ear­lier than his planned re­tire­ment in March 2015. Kris Gopalakr­ish­nan, ex­ec­u­tive vicechair­man, re­tires next April, leav­ing only chair­man Narayana Murthy to be at the com­pany, which was founded in 1981. Murthy’s sec­ond term ends in 2018. Egon Zehn­der is ex­pected to sub­mit the list by the first week of June to the three-mem­ber strong nom­i­na­tions panel, which in­cludes in­de­pen­dent di­rec­tors KV Ka­math, Ki­ran Mazum­dar-Shaw and R Se­shasayee. Once the nom­i­na­tions panel has the 8-10 names from out­side the com­pany, the panel in con­sul­ta­tion with Egon will whit­tle down it to three names in the com­ing months.
