Mehbooba to Take Oath on Monday
Senior BJP leaders likely to attend the low-key ceremony at Raj Bhawan in Jammu
Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti would be sworn in as the first woman chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir on April 4. Senior BJP leaders from New Delhi are expected to attend the lowkey ceremony at Raj Bhawan in the state’s winter capital Jammu. There may be minor changes in the Cabinet and portfolios from the BJP side while Mufti’s PDP team will remain more or less unchanged. “There could be changes from our side. Number of berths in the Cabinet can increase as well,” a senior BJP leader told ET. The BJP was demanding two more ministerial berths in the Cabinet to equalise the share as both the parties have 28 MLAs in the Assembly. The BJP is finalising the list of invitees subject to availability and confirmation of senior leaders busy with the Assam elections. “Who can Mehboobaji drop right now? I don’t think there would be any big change,” a senior PDP leader told ET. As of now11Cabinet ministers of the PDP, including CM, eight Cabinet ministers of the BJP and three ministers of state each from both parties would be sworn in on Monday.
According to sources, the oath-taking ceremony would be followed by a brief assembly session before the capital would shift to Srinagar on May 1.
