China Still an Impediment

The Economic Times - - Breaking Ideas -

Playing into the hands of Pakistan, China has exercised its veto power against a ban on JeM chief Masood Azhar, as sought by India. If a terrorist can be protected by one of the five permanent members of the United Nations, the very purpose of veto power is defeated. Further, China is an impediment to New Delhi’s bid for permanent membership in the UN Security Council as well. There is need to take a fresh look at the veto powers accorded to permanent members. UNSC should be expanded and the countries having negative attitude must be sidelined and the views of majority countries should prevail.
