CP Gurnani Named Nasscom Chairman
New Delhi: The National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) on Wednesday appointed CP Gurnani as its chairman for 2016-17, and Raman Roy as vice-chairman for the period.
“I feel very humbled to be given this opportunity, at a time when the industry is on the threshold of an exciting new journey. Innovative startups and disruptive technology have together created exciting times for the industry. Being at the helm of Nasscom, I will continue to drive greater engagement with our stakeholders and members to address the prevalent industry issues of inclusion, education, infrastructure security and corporate governance,” said Gurnani, who is also the CEO of Tech Mahindra. Gurnani, a chemical engineer from the National Institute of Technology, Rourkela, has over 31 years of experience in the industry. He has previously worked at Hewlett-Packard, Perot Systems (India) and HCL Corporation, and led the merger of Tech Mahindra with Satyam. Roy, who is managing director of Quatrro Global Services, is widely regarded as a pioneer of the business process outsourcing industry in India, and successfully led the BPO initiatives of American Express, GE (now Genpact) and Spectramind, before starting Quatrro in mid-2006. A Chartered Accountant with a Doctorate in Management Accountancy, Roy has a career spanning 35 years in the industry.
With a focus on Digital India, Gurnani will lead Nasscom’s vision 2020 for the industry, which includes focused programmes to build India as digital and innovation hub, enhancing global trade initiatives to counter protectionist sentiments and enhance market access in developed and emerging markets, Focus on niche opportunity areas such as IoT, Cybersecurity, analytics, and software as a service, Nasscom said in a statement.
