Two of In­dia’s Top Ad Agen­cies Skip Goafest

O&M, Mullen Lowe Lin­tas skip event, but chiefs show up

Goa: Two of the largest ad­ver­tis­ing agen­cies — Ogilvy & Mather and Mullen Lowe Lin­tas — have skipped the eleventh edi­tion of the Goafest and the Abby awards. How­ever, their top of­fi­cials were present at the event as part of the cer­e­mony.

Piyush Pandey, ex­ec­u­tive chair­man and cre­ative di­rec­tor, O&M In­dia and South Asia is be­ing fe­lic­i­tated for the Padamshri Award, the fourth high­est civil­ian award of the coun­try, while R Balakr­ish­nan, chair­man of Mullen Lowe Lin­tas is mod­er­at­ing a ses­sion with film di­rec­tor, pro­ducer Karan Jo­har. Pandey is the first pro­fes­sional who has re­ceived the award un­der a new cat­e­gory, ‘Oth­ers - Ad­ver­tis­ing and Com­mu­ni­ca­tion’.

“While some agen­cies may ab­stain for some un­avoid­able rea­sons, this is the only event I which 98% of the in­dus­try par­tic­i­pates,” Raj Nayak, pres­i­dent of the Ad­ver­tis­ing Club said. McCann WorldGroup, one of the largest mar­ket­ing com­mu­ni­ca­tion groups in the world, will take part in the Abby Awards and Goafest this year af­ter a gap of two years.

The num­ber of en­tries for the Abby Awards touched 4000 this year, a 25% in­crease over last year. “This is an all-time high and was pro­por­tion­ate across all cat­e­gories,” said Ramesh Narayan, chair­man, Awards Gov­ern­ing Coun­cil. Abby awards cer­e­mony is part of Goafest, or­ga­nized by the Ad­ver­tis­ing Club of Bom­bay and Ad­ver­tis­ing Agen­cies As­so­ci­a­tion of In­dia (AAAI).
