Pi­lot Project to Pop­u­larise Khadi in Srinagar Soon

A pi­lot project to pop­u­larise Khadi by the Khadi and Vil­lage In­dus­tries Com­mis­sion (KVIC), which re­sulted in em­ploy­ment for 57 Mus­lim women in North East Delhi, is likely to be soon repli­cated in Srinagar. Un­der the project the KVIC pro­vides for the fab­ric and other ma­te­rial for stitch­ing a nap­kin. KVIC pays Rs 1.50 to Rs 2 per nap­kin de­pend­ing upon the size of the item. “On an av­er­age each women stitches nearly 100 nap­kins which are then sup­plied to 5-star ho­tels or sold through Khadi stores,” said KVIC chair­man VN Sax­ena. They ben­e­fi­ciary are able to earn over Rs 200 per day. - OPB
