A se­nior gov­ern­ment of­fi­cial told ET, “to pro­mote sports among Kash­miri youths, CRPF has been roped in by both Cen­tre and state to in­stall flood­lights at Bak­shi sta­dium in Srinagar that reg­u­larly hosts foot­ball matches. The state po­lice have also been told to draft a counter-rad­i­cal­iza­tion plan keep­ing in mind the spread of Is­lamic State in the val­ley. The ac­tion plan by the Jammu and Kash­mir po­lice may also fo­cus on the univer­sity and col­leges in a bid to keep a check on the el­e­ments within the cam­pus in­clud­ing fac­ulty mem­bers try­ing to rad­i­cal­ize youths. With­out elab­o­rat­ing on the mech­a­nism that is be­ing put in place, a state gov­ern­ment of­fi­cial con­firmed to ET, “Other than se­cu­rity mea­sures, we plan to ad­dress their griev­ances and try to min­i­mize the deep sense of ‘alien­ation’ pre­vail­ing for years.”

The gov­ern­ment also dis­cussed the hoist­ing of Pak­istan flags in the val­ley and asked the state gov­ern­ment to take im­me­di­ate steps against those in­volved in the acts.
