The Per­ma­nent Mis­sion of In­dia to the UN in New York will host this spe­cial event at the head­quar­ters

New Delhi: The United Na­tions will host an event to com­mem­o­rate the 125th birth an­niver­sary of the Fa­ther of the In­dian Con­sti­tu­tion on April 13 in New York, which will also be the first event at the global body on BR Ambed­kar.

The Per­ma­nent Mis­sion of In­dia to the United Na­tions in New York will host this spe­cial event at the UN head­quar­ters, and it will be or­gan­ised in as­so­ci­a­tion with the Kal­pana Saroj Foun­da­tion and Foun­da­tion of Hu­man Hori­zon. The land­mark 2030 Agenda for Sus­tain­able Devel­op­ment recog­nises that com­bat­ing in­equal­ity within and among coun­tries, cre­at­ing sus­tained, in­clu­sive and sus­tain­able growth and fos­ter­ing in­clu­sion are in­ter­de­pen­dent. The vi­sion of BR Ambed­kar, the ar­chi­tect of the In­dian con­sti­tu­tion, to achieve so­cial jus­tice and equal­ity also finds res­o­nance in the core mes­sage of the 2030 Agenda, ac­cord­ing to a note by In­dia’s Per­ma­nent Mis­sion in UN, New York.

A panel dis­cus­sion will be held on the oc­ca­sion on the t h e me ‘Com­bat­ing In­equal­i­ties for the Achieve­ment of Sus­tain­able Devel­op­ment Goals’ with the ob­jec­tive of rais­ing aware­ness on the im­por­tance of ad­dress­ing all forms of in­equal­ity for t he a chi eve ment o f Sus­tain­able Devel­op­ment Goals (SDGs) and as per the vi­sion­ary mes­sage of Ambed­kar.

Helen Clark, chair of the United Na­tions Devel­op­ment Group (UNDG) and the ad­min­is­tra­tor of the United Na­tions Devel­op­ment Pro­gram (UNDP), will be the key­note speaker. Pro­fes­sor Stan Kach­nowski and as­so­ciate pro­fes­sor Anu­pama Rao from Colom­bia Univer­sity and Christo­pher Queen, lec­turer at Har­vard Univer­sity, will be among the panelists.

The panel dis­cus­sion will high­light the phi­los­o­phy and thought of Ambed­kar on so­cial jus­tice and equal­ity and its rel­e­vance in the im­ple­men­ta­tion of t he 2 0 3 0 Agenda. It will also high­light in­equal­ity as a ma­jor chal­lenge to sus­tain­able devel­op­ment, both within and among all coun­tries. It will also raise aware­ness of the im­por­tance of ad­dress­ing all Event may bring to­gether lead­ers, se­nior UN of­fi­cials, diplo­mats, academia and civil so­ci­ety mem­bers from In­dia, the US and other parts of the world

The event is ex­pected to bring to­gether po­lit­i­cal lead­ers, se­nior UN of­fi­cials, diplo­mats, academia, civil so­ci­ety and pri­vate sec­tor from In­dia, the US and other parts of the world. Clark, who vis­ited Delhi re­cently, could also be the next can­di­date for Sec­re­tary Gen­eral’s post of the UN.
