Not Just Phones, Snapdeal may De­liver More Prod­ucts in 4 Hrs

Ahmed­abad: Ecom­merce ma­jor Snapdeal, which of­fers as­sured de­liv­ery of cer­tain mo­bile phone mod­els to cus­tomers within four hours of plac­ing an or­der, now plans to ex­pand the scope of four-hour-de­liv­ery to other prod­ucts, a se­nior ex­ec­u­tive said.

“We have al­ready im­proved upon our de­liv­ery time by 70% over last year and would now ex­pand the scope of 4-hour de­liv­er­ies be­yond ex­clu­sive phone launches,” Ashish Chi­tra­van­shi, VP oper­a­tions at Snapdeal, told ET with­out elab­o­rat­ing.

He said Snapdeal has wit­nessed 40% trac­tion in ‘next day’ and ‘same day’ as­sured de­liv­er­ies in the last six months for mo­bile phones and fast-mov­ing con­sumer goods.

Chi­tra­van­shi claimed that nearly 99% of or­ders placed on Snapdeal plat­form are dis­patched on the same day. He said the Gur­gaon-based ecom­merce firm, which in­vested $200 mil­lion in its sup­ply chain and lo­gis­tics in 2015 and has a ware­house space of 2 mil­lion square feet, now ful­fils 70% of its or­ders through its own ware­houses com­pared to just 7% in Jan­uary 2015.

Hop­ing to de­liver faster, Snapdeal is cur­rently do­ing pi­lots on hy­per lo­cal model through its omni-chan­nel plat­form Janus.

Chi­tra­van­shi said the Snapdeal team size has been in­creased five-fold in less than a year to over 1,000 ex­ec­u­tives across core sup­ply chain func­tions, seller ex­pe­ri­ence, busi­ness in­tel­li­gence and risk man­age­ment.
