FBI says email Scam Stole more than $2.3 bil­lion

The FBI says a par­tic­u­lar kind of email scam where crim­i­nals im­per­son­ate a com­pany’s CEO and ask for a money trans­fer has seen a “dra­matic in­crease”, The Reg­is­ter re­ports. The FBI has pub­lished a se­cu­rity alert warn­ing busi­nesses in the US about the email scam. It says that po­lice around the world have heard of the scam, and it has been re­ported in 79 coun­tries. The alert says that be­tween Oct ’13 & Feb ’16, the FBI was made aware of $2.3 b in money lost due to this.— BI
