BJP is believed to have asked RSS to provide a replacement RSS pracharak Arvind Menon’s transfer seen by insiders as setback to Chouhan
New Delhi: BJP president Amit Shah has transferred Arvind Menon — an RSS ‘pracharak’ serving as BJP’s general secretary (organisation) in Madhya Pradesh — for an unassigned responsibility to New Delhi. Menon is considered close to chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and party insiders see the development as a setback to the CM. The change was intimated to Chouhan through a letter on SundayfromArunSingh, national party general secretary considered close to Shah. Menon, has been asked to report to the BJP’s national headquarters. UP BJP’s organisation general secretary Rakesh Jain was also sent to Delhi similarly after the 2014 Lok Sabha elections but was not assigned any particular task.
BJP is believed to have requested the RSS to provide a suitable replacement for Menon.AccordingtoaBJPinsider, the RSS has agreed to loan its ‘prant-pracharak’ for central India to replace Menon. A formal announcement is expected soon. BJP insiders say Menon was close to ChouhanandUnionsteelminister NarendraSinghTomar, theformer MP unit chief of the party. Both had asked for Menon’s retention, according to party insiders.
“Thegeneralsecretary(organisation) is expected to work with the state unit chief and the chief minister. But, he is not expected to be likeoneof them.Thatwouldmean that the troika can stonewall alter- native suggestions within the party unit,” a party leader said. “The Vyapam scandal has affected BJP’s state organisation and it reflects poorly on the person in-charge of the state organisation,” said another BJP insider, who alleged that Menon’s organisation management “took the sheen off his moral authority among party cadre.” Menon’s removal has come months after the chief minister managed his choice NK Chouhan re-elected as the state BJP chief. According to BJP sources, the central leadership was not in favour of theChouhan-Menon-NKChouhan
