More than four-fifths of In­di­ans — 86% in ru­ral and 82% in ur­ban ar­eas — are not cov­ered by any health ex­pen­di­ture sup­port scheme, whether govern­ment or pri­vate. Govern­ment data shows such sup­port was broadly cor­re­lated with house­hold in­come lev­els. While 33.4% of the rich­est ur­ban quin­tile had ac­cess to some form of health cover, the fig­ure for the ur­ban poor (bot­tom 20%) was just 8.6%...
